Come back Professor Higgins

The English are still having problems

Picked up today, half a page announcing a symposium on a matter of international significance (not in Conductive Education but not a thousand miles removed) at a fairly new university in England – funded by a grant from a major, national academic body.

Two quotations from this brief notice –

The aim of this symposia...'

and

'...each presenter has 24 min for presentation of their paper...'

Titles of the individual papers followed, with every word capitalised, down to the last definite and indefinite article, conjunction and preposition – making them look to have been written by eight-year-olds.

There had been no infinitives to split and no occasion for apostrophes – small but welcome mercies!
