Conductive Education Information
has announced that it is ceasing publication of its regular monthly round-up of CE news items appearing on line.

This listing service began four years ago, in April 2009, at which time it the numbers of news items appearing (mainly in the English-speaking world) has tailed away, and what has remained has increasingly comprised announcements of forthcoming fund-raising events.

Conductive Education Information will continue to draw attention to media items of conductive substance – as long as she hears of them.

A quick count

How valid is the impression that news of Conductive Education has dried up in the public media?

A 'quick and dirty' check of the appearance of the English term “conductive education” in the world's media can be made by entering it for a search in Google News.

Nine out of the latest ten results (covering the period 13 April to 7 May) are for fund-raising activities, in the UK, US and Canada. The tenth is a substantive item on Conductive Education, and comes from China (an article written by practitioners from hospitals in Beijing).

What is today's primary subliminal message from this small sample? That CE is an exciting way forward for the upbringing and lifestyle or children and adults and their families? Or that, whatever its admirable features, in the English-speaking world it is something struggling to survive, and able to do so only through the considerable efforts here and there of individual fund-raisers?

You might judge this differently. You can form your own opinion from the raw data (appended below)

China and Germany

Inclusion of a result from China prompted a similar search through Google News using the term “引导式教育”. There is certainly a lot of media activity: seven items between 23 April and 3 May). I cannot judge the nature of the practices described but the press stories identified seem to predicate upon substance rather than fund-raising.

What about Germany? It is a wealthy society, it has a considerable 'conductive sector', and this is the run-up period to the 8th World Congress to be held in Munich – and event hoped in that country to bring increased public attention to bear upon Conductive Education. Coverage of that event noticed so has been in small specialist media. Searching Google News for “konduktive Förderung” brings up just two items, on 17 and 26 April. Both report confident, substantive development.
