AGREEMENTS

Over there?

Today the PAF has very briefly reported a meeting, held in Munich:
  • it and Phoenix (Munich) decided in December on future 'cooperation in the field of training'. and it is agreed that in future PAF students might have practice placements at Phoenix, and

  • 'European conductive associations and institutions' would work more closely over quality assurance and in the field of training.
European conductive associations and institutions are specified here as the following:
  • PAF, András Pető College, Budapest
  • ECA, European Conductive Association
  • IPA, International Pető Association
  • BKF, the German Federal CE Association
  • conductors' associations

As might be expected, Phoenix is rather more forthcoming:

It's all happening!

It might just mean further and more exact specification of what they these bodies are doing together, all carried out in the modern spirit of transparency. Mightn't it?

Brexit

I suppose that this all relates to somewhere that for me might soon be a foreign country.

Oh well, back to fog in Channel, Continent cut off again?

  1. Dear Andrew,
I do not get your "Brexit" note. Could you please explain how you mean it? Do you think because of a praxis field in Germany, UK will lose its CE position? I really do not understand your lines. Please help.

  2. My turn not to understand. What do you mean by the UK's 'CE position'?

  3. Well, I do not know exactly. This idea came from your 'cut off' expression. Maybe: Appreciated CE country. First in the business abroad. First Conductor training abroad. Many great CE services. I think these are nice things to be proud of. How you mean 'continent cut off'?

  4. 'Continent cut off' is an ironical English saying to indicate many people's isolationist mind-set over here, the automatic viewpoint that Europe is the outsider rather than this odd-shore island.

One was beginning to see a more European view, then the isolationists won the Brexit... What it will be like from now on, Heaven knows.

Yes, England was the first in with respect to several aspects of interest and action over Conductive Education. That's history and one cannot take that away. The goal of social policy was not, however, achieved, public awareness is small, academic interest negligible, and the size of CE services limited. There is no coherent whole, and most services employing conductors restrict themselves, I think, to preschool children.

What may or may not happen in Germany may be of little relevance here, as elsewhere.

To return to your earlier comment, England will presumably continue do it thing, as it does, bearing in mind that this will be very diverse and with little or no awareness of or interest in whatever happens abroad.

Please note that I am using the word 'England' here'. There is nothing in Scotland that could be called CE, and only one place that employs a single conductor in Wales and one other in Northern Ireland.

  5. Thank you very much for the explanation. It does make sens. I understand the difference you talking about in between for instane Germany & England & I respect your oppinion. To be honest, both ways have pros and contras and what I believe is important that Peto College opens up to find the way for new generation (ce students) to learn local characteristics. I can just hope such contract will be done at different parts of the world.
